I’ve walked these hilltops for so many years…but now it’s time to talk with colour and all the boldness I can muster in brushwork, to say what I’ve felt for so long about these places in nature…

Moving into the new studio seems to have had a dramatic effect on my work. I think the room to move, the light and the views out to the countryside beyond through the vast studio windows has brought nature firmly into my imaginative awareness…

Studies and colour notations underpin the progress of paintings. The speed of pastel painting has always been useful for making rapid studies…

…but I love to spend days exploring the possibilities of each idea in small scale, oil paint studies.

It’s a time to explore each individual colour in relation to the whole and play with composition, space and colour mood.

Each idea is so infinitely variable. This is the chance to focus the direction and ambition of the larger scale works that follow.
